About Mel ...

“There's nothing else in life that gives me what singing does. It's freedom,” says Alt Rock singer-songwriter Mel Keith. “I believe that music delivers a feeling of freedom to the listener and I want to be a part of that with and for my fans. My goal always is to unite, inspire and help bring joy and positivity to people's lives through my music and performance - and use music as a force for positive change."

Following Keith’s last solo release under the name, Mel Keith & The Strombachs, she took a hiatus from music after her Dad passed away suddenly. “I couldn’t see what good I was doing in the world pursuing music when I felt I should be offering something more.” It wasn't an easy decision following the national and international praise that resulted in a nomination for an East Coast Music Award, Female Artist of the Year Nomination, and Album of the Year Nomination at the Music New Brunswick Awards. That along with a tour across her native Canada, and capping off the year with a showcase at the Juno Music Awards where she was invited to play the Warner Music Canada Juno Awards After Party. It was a lot to put a stop to the momentum that was happening.

When the pull of music started to tug on Keith once more, she found herself back on stage again. Playing live generated a rebirth of her music, and a realization of the power of music to heal not only her but her audience. Covid-19 had hit the world, and it was a perfect time for Keith to buckle down and work hard on her music. This led her to start looking for a label to partner with, and she signed with an independent label out of New York City, CCVM Label w/o Walls to write her next album.

“These songs are the most emotionally honest pieces I have written to date.” says Keith as she reflects on the past year. Drawing on her lifelong influences such as David Bowie, The Smiths, Pretenders, Joan Jett and John Lennon—married with current influences like Brandi Carlile, LP, St Vincent, Mel's sound veers towards a pop sensibility based in rock guitars, bass and drums with layered synths and harmony—a big wall of sound. Mel's songs talk about life, love and loss serenaded by her larger-than-life gregarious personality and her big open tenacious soprano rock and roll belt.

She is excited to get into the studio to record. She has plans to release a few singles followed by a full-length album to tour the US and Canada.
